As we hit mid-February, those of us who’ve been in the northeast all winter begin to feel a bit restless. Though at 60ish we often spend big bucks on serums & creams for our faces, a little vitamin D on our body still feels great. Just enough to look sun-kissed! With that in mind, I am heading to my dear friend Ellen’s gorgeous home in Boca Raton for a few days.
A major over-packer, I like options. What if it’s cold, rainy, windy? I need the right outfit. That said, no matter the locale, there are certain items that go with me wherever I go. What are your must-haves? Here’s my top-10 list of I NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT…

- MY MAKEUP BAG: Monogrammed makeup & toiletry bags from themonogramshops.com, also a wonderful gift, they have a great men’s dopp kit too

2. A LIGHTWEIGHT CASHMERE SWEATER TO WEAR OR THROW OVER MY SHOULDERS: Cable knit sweaters in a variety of colors at ralphlauren.com

3. A LEATHER OR JEAN JACKET: Joie leather moto jacket from neimanmarcus.com; “trucker” jean jacket from ralphlauren.com

4. JEANS, WHITE IF GOING SOUTH: White wide-leg jeans at AGjeans.com

5. BALLET FLATS OR COMFORTABLE SHOES: Manolo Blahnik “Hangisi” flats from neimanmarcus.com

6. A HANDBAG THAT HOLDS EVERYTHING: Jackie Onassis with John-John & her iconic Gucci bag in Capri, still available at gucci.com; my favorite whiskey-colored “Ricky” bag at ralphlauren.com

7. A GREAT SKIRT OR DRESS: Just in case I get invited somewhere fabulous! Proenza Schouler top, skirt & matching jacket from neimanmarcus.com

8. HOOP EARRINGS THAT GO GREAT WITH EVERYTHING: “Lock” earrings from tiffanys.com

9. VELCRO ROLLERS: Mine have traveled the world! Available in an array of sizes at your local drugstore or amazon.com

10. A SHAWL OR WRAP: A must-have for cool nights & over-air conditioned hotel rooms (Have you ever stayed in a hotel room & could not figure out how to turn off the a/c?) My dear friend Lyn Neff & me at the Western Wall on a chilly, windy Shabbat last May; my shawl from neimanmarcus.com, hers from gucci.com

I am well aware that many of you throw a few things in a carry-on bag & have everything you need wherever you go. I wish I could do that, but I’m betting that’s never going to happen! Whatever your style, travel safe & enjoy every fabulous moment~ Ellyn Golder Saft

ps. Fashionistas will like “The New Look” on apple+ tv, a behind-the-scenes drama about the true stories of Christian Dior & Coco Chanel during WWII in Nazi-occupied France. Though the clothes are beautiful, the story is not–often a chilling tale of the ways their designs literally fed them through the war, then fed & uplifted women’s psyches with the “New Look” after its horrors. How meaningful are beautiful clothes in our lives? Food for thought!!
