At 60ish, most of us do not have school-age kids, but “spring break” always feels like a state of mind as well as an actual vacation. Whether you are indeed traveling, spend your winters in a warm climate or are just starting to dream of spring, here’s a shopping list if you’re “cruising” through stores or scrolling online. Nothing more fun than buying sandals on a cold, rainy afternoon!
BUY:
A fabulous leather jacket to throw over everything
Wider, high-rise jeans
A crisp white shirt
Flowy or flared pants
Something metallic or sequin—a dress, a skirt, a belt
Sling-back pumps
A structured handbag
Something sporty—the “athletic glam” trend is huge, even if you’re not truly an athlete!
Something retro-looking & elegant—think “old Hollywood,” Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, even Cate Blanchett

BUY: Michael Kors ruffled top with flared black pants from neimanmarcus.com; “Ruth” high waisted jeans at lagence.com; structured Versace “La Medusa” handbag from neimanmarcus.com; something “sporty, Zendaya inLoewe & Thom Browne
KEEP:
Skinny or boot-leg jeans—they’re flattering & they’ll be back
Your favorite jean jacket
Ballet flats & loafers
Anything neutral—beige, taupe, camel or cognac
Anything nautical—even a navy & white striped sweater or T-shirt

KEEP: Your favorite jean jacket—I love this one from ralphlauren.com; something nautical—Princess Kate in her signature navy & white striped sweater—available in an array of styles from bloomingdales.com; a crisp white shirt & a metallic/military shirt, both from ralphlauren.com
DONATE:
Anything with cut-outs or illusion through your middle. Well, unless you’re Cher, who can still wear it!—the only one who wore it like a T-shirt, so nonchalant, so cool. Now, so overdone. And just not elegant—to me, those dresses look ice skating costumes, enough!
Platform shoes—now looking outdated & frankly if you’re 60ish, a little dangerous!
Low-rise jeans—if you’re 60ish, they’re never coming back—simply not flattering

DONATE: All things see-through, just not flattering; Florence Pugh at The Oscars in 2023
Though spring’s motto is undoubtedly, “Do you own thing,” at the same time, there is a refinement to clothes—the look is neater, more polished & pulled together than it’s been in years—a bit understated. If you wear something sparkly, also wear something tailored. Try a metallic dress with a structured clutch bag. A man-tailored pantsuit with a ruffly blouse. You’ll notice it everywhere at every price point. Casual luxe. Easy elegance. Functional & funky. All with a bit of attitude & edge. Start with a vacation—if only in your daydreams—then enjoy every gorgeous, fun moment~ Ellyn Golder Saft
ps. Speaking of metallics, they were in full-force on the Oscars red carpet Sunday night—VERY old-school Hollywood too! My favorites:

SO OLD-SCHOOL HOLLYWOOD—LOOKING LIKE AN OSCAR AT THE OSCARS: My favorite was Selena Gomez in Ralph Lauren Couture—how about that Bulgari necklace? My second was Emma Stone in custom Louis Vuitton and last, a bit “disco-ballish,” Demi Moore (who is indeed 60ish!) in Armani Prive
