Recently, I was watching an interview with top stylist Rachel Zoe—don’t you love her on the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?”—where she was discussing how most women have a “uniform.” Whatever your price point, a go-to look that’s easy, what you reach for most often, your daily “look.” Some women love denim, some love black, I often wear creamy, camel-y colors.

WHAT’S YOUR UNIFORM? Many women live in black; I live in caramel & cream.I think it matches my hair! Two favorites: my white Celine jumpsuit from Saks Fifth Avenue; in NYC with Margot & Lauren, in my ivory sparkled Richard Grand sweater from Boyds in Wayne & Philadelphia—Lauren is wearing a cream cashmere sweater that was my dad’s, surely one of my favorite things! 🙂
I have always been a huge Rachel Zoe fan & of course she’s 100% right. My winter uniform is often a sweater with leather pants, my summer uniform is a top & white jeans. What you prefer doesn’t matter, as long as it’s flattering & comfortable. As long as it’s “you!”

A FAVORITE STYLE ICON: Rachel Zoe, I love both her look & her advice! My fave “Bravo Housewife” too!
Keeping your “uniform” in mind, here’s a Top 10 list for spring:

- A great jacket: Ivory & navy striped linen blazer at ralphlauren.com; my cherished Marc Jacobs jean jacket, it has literally traveled the world with me

2. Something “preppy:” Powder blue oxford shirt with an array of beads, at netapoorter.com; nothing more preppy than a sweater around your neck—this photo is ten years old, but the look is so this year, VP & fashion director Ken Downing & me at Neiman’s in King of Prussia

3. A crisp cotton shirt: Spring’s must-have! Marine blue & white cotton shirt at ralphlauren.com; pale yellow linen shirt at jcrew.com

4. Flared or “statement” pants; Derek Lam 10 Crosby sailor pants at saks.com

5. Wider light-washed jeans: Rag & Bone light-washed boot-leg jeans at neimanmarcus.com

6. Loafers: Jimmy Choo faux-croc loafers from neimanmarcus.com

7. A beautiful handbag: Barrel bags in pretty spring colors from louisvuitton.com

8. Something beaded or metallic: Emma Stone in metallic Louis Vuitton at The Oscars; a favorite beaded tunic from Joolay in Paris

9. A chunky necklace & big earrings: Gold & diamond HardWear necklace from Tiffanys.com; preppy & boho at once—multi-colored beaded necklace & earrings with ivory blazer from celine.com

10. A new scent: Two that I love—Hermes Barenia & Tom Ford Black Lacquer, both from bloomingdales.com
Clothes, shoes & bags have become so expensive, splurge on one or two new items & fill in from your closet, creating your personal “uniform” every day. Invest in go-to pieces that are part of your go-to look, then mix & match. As we get older, I think we all agree, the best wardrobes are filled with closest friends & family—there’s not a designer handbag in the world that competes with a cherished friend! Happy Spring—enjoy every fabulous moment~ Ellyn Golder Saft
