As the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end.” The time has come for me to say good-bye to my readers. Hard to believe it’s been almost three years since I first created “CHIC AT 60 ISH.” Though I am rarely at a loss for words, I must admit I find it tougher than I’d imagined to adequately express my gratitude.

In my first blog I wrote: “I am a dinosaur. My children tell me all the time. Some of my friends do too. One of the few who still likes to talk on the phone, rather than text; one of the last who still prefers a book to hold & feel, then keep on the shelf, like a friend.” I continued, “But I am the most old-fashioned when it comes to getting dressed. I love clothes! I love getting dressed up. For me, part of the fun of going out is deciding what to wear—choosing my outfit, just the right jewelry, shoes & bag.”

CLASSIC & MODERN AT ONCE: Invest in timeless pieces—a favorite jacket & wide-leg pants, worn with one of my mom’s beautiful brooches—this look is as new today as the day I bought it, from ralphlauren.com
As I wrote those words, I had no idea just how many women shared my passion or might be interested in what I had to say. Nervous to start something new, I listened to my children & launched Chic at 60ish. Thank you to my son Jonathan, who set up my domain; thank you to my daughter Lauren, who urged me to use my own photos when possible, rather than 20-year-old models & taught me the word “organic,” meaning a blog should be personal, like a visit with the author.

THANKS KIDS! My son Jonathan & daughter Lauren, who helped set up my blog, then kept me “cool” with input & advice
As I end Chic at 60ish, it feels like a good time to celebrate—so let’s talk about getting dressed up. Did you watch the Met Gala red carpet? The theme was “Art in Fashion,” some gowns were indeed gorgeous—others just outrageous & crazy.

IS THIS REALLY FASHION TODAY?? Do you see anything pretty? An array of runway looks from the spring runways; one celeb was worse than the next at the Met Gala last week
Fashion will always offer beautiful designs, beautiful pieces, but it seems more & more that clothes are so ugly, it’s often hard to find just the right thing—especially if you’re 60ish. Did you read this month’s Vogue? Other than Meryl Streep & Anna Wintour on the cover, there was not one pretty dress inside. Have you seen “The Devil Wear Prada 2?” Much of the plot revolves around ever-changing designers, ever-present takeovers by large conglomerates. That’s business—and fashion—in today’s world. Not “Ellyn clothes; “not my kind of fashion!

BEAUTIFUL & BOLD: Some of my favorite Met Gala looks—Naomi Watts in Dior; Nicole Kidman in Chanel with her daughter Sunday Rose in Dior; Anna Wintour in similar Chanel looks from 2019 & 2026
As I say good-bye, a few thoughts worth remembering: If you look good, you feel good. A mantra of this blog from the start. Clothing tells a story, who you are & how you want to present yourself to the world. Every woman loves to feel beautiful. It’s in our DNA. A fabulous dress. A smashing jacket. A can’t-live-without pair of shoes. An immediate lift!

INVEST IN FOREVER FASHION: You’ll never go wrong with a gorgeous jacket, skirt, shoes & bag, from chanel.com or a similar look at a lower price point; a “Le Smoking” jacket, from saintlaurent.com or a myriad of designers ; cashmere sweaters from ralphlauren.com & others—invest & indulge!
Looking to the future, I say my farewells feeling confident you’ll find me whispering in your ear as you shop. Always invest in the best you can afford, indulging in luxurious classics, spending less on of-the-moment trends. What’s the cost of feeling great? Priceless.

SAYING GOOD-BYE FOR NOW & SENDING ALL GOOD WISHES TO ALL OF MY READERS~ XO
Warmest wishes to my readers for a wonderful summer—once again, my sincere thanks for inviting me into your life every week—I am so grateful for every comment, text or phone call, telling me you loved a certain blog. It has been my privilege & pleasure to write for you— heartfelt gratitude & much love—enjoy every fabulous moment~ Ellyn Golder Saft

ps. Many have asked, “What’s next?” Besides a bit of rest & relaxation at the shore with my family, I’m thinking of writing about my dating life. “Dating at 60ish!” 🙂 Don’t get excited—these book covers were created on AI by Jonathan & his girlfriend Ellen, an accomplished graphic designer, as a cute goal for my “next chapter!” Do you know how to do this??? Pretttty cool. Which do you prefer?

Jonathan & Ellen with an “e,” encouraging me to write about the highs & lows of dating at 60ish!!!!!!!
As many of you know, my wonderful husband Steve passed way in September 2022— how can it be almost four years????— and I began to date about a year after. It has not been a fun experience. You have to laugh or you’ll cry! A book, a blog or just for me? To be determined…stay tuned!
